CLARION, Ia. — The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys and Cowgirls basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the Humboldt Wildcats in North Central Conference action at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School. The CGD girls entered at 0-4, while the CGD boys entered at 1-1.
Humboldt would put the pedal to the metal early in the girls game, leading 33-0 after the first quarter, as CGD got on the board in the 2nd quarter and trailed 43-4 at halftime. Humboldt would cruise throughout the 2nd half to pick up a 69-7 win.
The KQWC Player of the Game for Clarion-Goldfield-Dows was senior Daniela Rodriguez, who finished with a team-high 4 points. Ava Fischer led Humboldt with 23 points.
CGD’s boys followed as they opened up a 17-12 lead after the first quarter, before defenses slowed things down in the 2nd quarter, but the Cowboys maintained to a 25-16 halftime lead. The 3rd quarter would prove to be a deciding factor as the Cowboys outscored the Wildcats 14-5 to take a 39-21 lead, as CGD held serve for a 51-35 victory.
The KQWC Player of the Game for Clarion-Goldfield-Dows was junior Huxley Lingenfelter, who finished with 13 points and 5 rebounds, while Chaz Lane also finished with 3 points for the Cowboys.
CGD turned around and hosted the Cardinals of Garner-Hayfield-Ventura in non-conference action on Saturday morning, as the CGD girls fell to GHV by a score of 78-9. Stats were not available on Bound as of Monday for CGD.
The CGD boys shook off a slow 1st half to rally for a 59-49 victory over GHV on Saturday, as Chaz Lane led the Cowboys with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals, as JD Morrical added 13 points and 6 rebounds, and Huxley Lingenfelter had a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball returns to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Clear Lake to take on the Clear Lake Lions in North Central Conference action at Clear Lake High School, with tipoff at 6 PM.
