JEWELL, IA — At its December 8 meeting, the South Hamilton Community School District
School Board reviewed updated plans for the new auxiliary gym and weight room project.
The new auxiliary gym will include a full-size competition basketball court that can be divided
into two side courts, along with two volleyball courts and four pickleball courts. The space will
also feature a two-lane, 120-meter walking and running track around the perimeter, batting
cages that can be deployed as needed, and a new, modern weight room designed to support
both athletics and overall wellness.
These designs represent an important step toward expanding student opportunities, improving
scheduling flexibility, and supporting the district’s extracurricular programs.
Board members reviewed the plans and expressed their support for continuing to move the
project forward.
“We are encouraged by the progress of this project and the opportunities it will create for our
students and community,” said Superintendent Heather Holm. “This is an important investment
in our facilities and in the long-term success of our programs, and we look forward to the next
phase of development.”
The next step is for architects to finalize construction documents in preparation for bidding. The
district anticipates the project will go out to bid in February 2027.
