Fort Dodge firefighters summoned to a house fire early Thursday morning.

The Fort Dodge Fire Department braved the overnight chill to battle a structure fire in the city this (Thursday) morning. Fire trucks and personnel arrived on the scene at 12:41 a.m. today. When they arrived, the 2-story wood frame home at 225 J Street was on fire. Flames were showing from most of the first story of the residence. The icy conditions and below freezing temperatures was a challenge for the firefighters to set up their operations. The flames then extended to the second story and attic. The occupants of the home were able to escape without assistance. One firefighter suffered minor injuries in the fire call however a dog perished at the scene. Cause of the fire this morning remains under investigation by the Fort Dodge Fire Department. Other agencies assisting at the scene were the Fort Dodge Police Department and Mid-American Energy.
