Roland-Story basketball splits home HOIAC doubleheader with Nevada

STORY CITY, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Nevada Cubs in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Roland-Story High School in Story City. The Norse girls entered at 1-1, while the Norsemen entered at 1-0.

Tuesday’s girls game saw the Norse jump all over Nevada from the get out, leading 26-9 after the first quarter, extended to 37-19 at halftime. Roland-Story continued to pull away in the 2nd half to cap a convincing 68-38 victory.

The KQWC Player of the Game was junior Riley Johnson, who finished with a game-high 24 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. Brinley Carlson added 14 points with 4 three-pointers, while Camryn Thoreson had 11 points off the bench.

The boys game followed as Nevada would be the ones to jump out early, leading 21-11 after the first quarter, a lead that was extended 32-19 at halftime despite the Norsemen cutting the deficit to as little as 6. Roland-Story played things close again in the 3rd quarter, but a late run to end the 3rd for Nevada opened up a big 4th quarter that saw the Cubs pull away for a 60-35 win.

Our KQWC Player of the Game was senior Cody Long, who finished with 11 points and 2 assists, while Eli Van Hove finished with 8 points and 10 rebounds.

Roland-Story basketball returns to action on Friday night, when they travel to Dallas County to take on the Perry Bluejays in Heart of Iowa Conference action with tipoff at 6 PM.
