Roland-Story wrestling competes in Cliff Keen Invitational in Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen wrestling team returned to action Friday and Saturday, as they made the trip to Eastern Iowa to compete in the annual Cliff Keen Invitational at Independence High School. The Norsemen were joined by the host Mustangs, as well as Alburnett, Algona, Atlantic, Burlington Notre Dame, Carlisle, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, Clear Creek-Amana, Crestwood, Denver, Dubuque Senior, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, Greene County, Harrisburg (SD), Hinton, Interstate 35, Lisbon, Maquoketa, New Hampton/Turkey Valley, North Polk, Osage, PCM, Perry, Pleasant Valley, Solon, South Tama County, Tinley Park (IL), Union Community, Waterloo East, West Liberty and Cedar Rapids Xavier.

Roland-Story would place 22nd in the meet with 130 points, as their top placer was Caiden Latch, who secured a 7th place finish with a pin over Burlington Notre Dame’s Jared Glendening and went 4-2 in the tournament. Konnor Blume would place 8th at 113 pounds, losing by fall in his 7th place match to Pleasant Valley’s Liam Fitzgibbon by fall and went 2-3 in the tournament.

Blake Loof placed 11th at 144, pinning Atlantic’s Carter Hadley in the 11th place match and finishing the tournament 4-2, as Chance Georgius was 11th at 190, winning a 9-1 major decision over North Polk’s Mason Ackerman in the 11th place match and finished the tournament 5-2.

Other placers for Roland-Story saw Colin Grundlingh place 15th at 175, Roman Stotts was 17th at 215, Brady Long was 17th at 132, Greysun Lein was 19th at 150, Myles Handsaker was 20th at 157, Kamden Wilkinson was 21st at 106, Noah Healy was 21st at 120, Kale Kadolph was 27th at 165, Kael Ammerman was 28th at 126 and Gavin Jeter was 29th at 285.

Roland-Story wrestling returns to action on Thursday, when they host a Heart of Iowa Conference tri dual with West Marshall and Greene County at Roland-Story High School, beginning at 6 PM.
