EAGLE GROVE, Ia. — The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball team returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the West Hancock Eagles in Top of Iowa West action at Eagle Grove Elementary School on Coaches vs. Cancer night. Eagle Grove’s girls entered at 1-1, while the boys entered at 0-2.
Friday’s girls game would be close early, as Eagle Grove trailed just 14-9 after the first quarter, but West Hancock would open up a bigger lead thanks to a strong 2nd quarter defensively, and led 23-10 at halftime. Eagle Grove bounced back in the 3rd quarter to cut the score to 30-21, but a big 4th quarter from West Hancock let the Eagles come away with a 52-28 win.
Addy Pamperin led Eagle Grove with 7 points and 10 rebounds, while Taytum Edwards had 6 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steal. Meara Kudej led West Hancock with 14 points.
Eagle Grove’s boys started off hot on Friday night, leading 17-9 after the 1st quarter, before West Hancock’s offense came to life in the 2nd quarter to cut the Eagle Grove lead to 34-29 at halftime. The Eagles kept control in the 3rd quarter, leading 52-45 going into the 4th, as Eagle Grove went blow-for-blow with West Hancock to pickup a 69-62 win.
Gavin Pedersen led the Eagles with 21 points and 12 rebounds, Adrian Whipple had 18 points, while Braylon Kling added 15 points.
Eagle Grove basketball returns to action on Monday night, as they travel south on Highway 17 to take on the Madrid Tigers in non-conference action at Madrid High School with tipoff at 6 PM on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
