CLARION, Ia. — The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys and Cowgirls basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the St. Edmond Gaels in North Central Conference action at CGD High School. The Cowgirls entered at 0-2, while the Cowboys entered at 1-0.
St. Edmond’s girls would take control early, leading 13-4 after the first quarter, extending that lead to 34-4 at halftime. The Gaels kept their foot on the gas in the 3rd quarter, leading 46-6, before an uneventful 4th quarter brought the final to 47-7 in favor of St. Edmond.
Audrey Egland, Haddi Lantzky and Daphne Tijull Villatoro each had 2 points, as Egland added 4 rebounds, a block and a steal. Chloe Palmer led St. Edmond with 11 points.
The boys game followed as the Cowboys faced a daunting task with the #1 team in 1A in the Gaels, as St. Edmond led 24-12 after the first quarter, before extending the lead by a halftime score of 45-26. St. Edmond kept their foot on the gas in the 3rd quarter, leading 69-39, as they would cruise through the 4th quarter for an 81-54 win.
Chaz Lane led the Cowboys with 23 points, 4 rebounds and 3 blocks, while Tristan Kakacek added 9 points and 3 assists. Hunter Horn had 28 points for St. Edmond, while Carson Bargfrede had 27 points.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball returns to action on Tuesday night, as they host the Charles City Comets in non-conference action with tipoff at 6:15 PM.
