South Hamilton basketball splits season-opening games with South Central Calhoun

ROCKWELL CITY, Ia. — The South Hamilton Hawks basketball teams opened their 2025-26 seasons on Tuesday night, as they made the trip west into Calhoun County to take on the Titans of South Central Calhoun at South Central Calhoun Middle School in Rockwell City.

South Hamilton’s girls started things off well on Tuesday, leading the Titans 13-8 after the first quarter, adding onto that lead by halftime with a 26-16 halftime advantage. The 3rd quarter would see the Hawks come alive from behind the arc, hitting 4 threes in the frame to take a 41-23 lead into the 4th quarter, as South Hamilton coasted to a 57-37 win.

The KQWC Player of the Game was sophomore Emma Lammers, who finished 23 points, 3 rebounds, 5 steals and 6 three-pointers. Kaylen Trask, Tessa Skartvedt and Adelyn Trask all added 8 points each as well.

The boys game followed as South Central Calhoun led after the first quarter 17-7, before a big 2nd quarter put the Titans ahead 34-12 at halftime. The Titans kept the foot on the gas throughout much of the rest of the contest to come away with a 61-34 win.

The KQWC Player of the Game was senior Luke Martensen, who led South Hamilton with 9 points on Tuesday. Ben Swenson added 7 points, while Jose Babcock had 5 points.

South Hamilton basketball returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Iowa Falls-Alden to take on the Cadets in non-conference action with tip-off at 6 PM.
