Roland-Story basketball sweeps Grand View Christian in conference openers

DES MOINES, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made the trip to Des Moines to take on the Grand View Christian Thunder in Heart of Iowa Conference action at the Grand View Christian Activities Center.

Roland-Story’s offense shown early and often in the girls matchup, as the Norse led 26-10 after the first quarter, extending the lead by halftime to a score of 43-23. The Norse would maintain a 57-37 lead after three quarter, before pulling away big for a 73-42 win over Grand View Christian.

Riley Johnson would lead all scorers with 27 points, as the Norsemen saw 5 players score in double figures on Tuesday.

The boys game followed as defenses ruled early, with the Norsemen leading GVC 11-9 after the first quarter, slightly pushing the lead to 23-19 by halftime. Offenses began to pick up in the 2nd half, as Roland-Story led 39-32 after 3 quarters, before a 12-1 run late in the 4th quarter sealed a season-opening upset by the Norsemen with a final score of 56-39.

Blake Larsen would finish with a team-high 12 points, along with 2 rebounds and 3 steals, while Eli Van Hove had 10 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. Gavin Griffith added 10 points, a rebound and a block off the bench.

Roland-Story basketball returns to action on Tuesday, when they host the Nevada Cubs in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Roland-Story High School with tip-off at 6 PM.
