At their meeting on November 18th, the Stanhope City Council decided for the upcoming five years to raise electric rates at a beginning year raise of 3 percent followed by the next four years at 2 percent a year. A resolution will be written up for the December meeting to start the voting process. A fire alarm contract with the Stanhope city hall was discussed. It was decided not to resign the contract with Summit Fire and to look at bids from other companies. Stanhope Mayor Pro Tem Kempton Young will get bids to replace the contract. The council learned that Baker Mechanical will start repairs to the air conditioning/furnace system starting the week after Thanksgiving when the parts have arrived. Stanhope City Clerk Jori Young stated that the new state law requires newly elected and re-elected council members and the mayor to take an open meetings class. Work will be done with the council to work on the required training.
