With the change of seasons, the Hamilton County Conservation Board learned Thursday morning that the water to the camp sites at Bells Mill, Briggs Woods and Little Wall Lake is now shut off for the winter season. The water service ended earlier this month to reopen for the season. The modern cabins at the parks will remain open. For reservations you may visit the My County Parks website for information.
Next month a new golf simulation will be up and running at the Briggs Woods Golf Facility. There will be information on the facilitator coming soon from the conservation office. The golf course is now closed for the season to reopen in late March or April weather permitting. Further information on a recap of the 2025 season will be discussed at a future board meeting.
The Hamilton County Conservation Board approved a memorandum of understanding for new Star Lab system with Clay County.
Iowa DNR Natural Resouces Biologist Scott Grummer was a guest at Thursday’s conservation board meeting as he presented information on the recent stock up of walleyes at Briggs Woods Lake. An estimated 600 walleye were delivered to the lake by the DNR, its staff and volunteers last week. The DNR holds many walleye stocking dates each year. Contributions to help with the Annual walleye stocking at Briggs Woods Lake are welcomed. You may drop off your monetary contributions to the Friends of Hamilton County Conservation Trust Fund through the My County Parks website.
The last outdoor event for the year will be on Saturday,December 6th with the Candy Cane Hike at Briggs Woods Park at 2:00 p.m. with John Laird and conservation volunteers. They will meet in shelter 2 in the park with all welcome to attend.
The last meeting for 2025 for the Hamilton County Conservation Board will be held Wednesday, December 17th at 9:30 at the conservation headquarters in Briggs Woods Park.
