The Iowa State Patrol investigated an accident at Highway 3 and State Avenue in Humboldt Monday morning that claimed the life of a motorist from Hardy. Reportedly a westbound 2004 model Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 60-year-old Debora Lei Ruberg of Hardy lost control on the snow- and ice-covered intersection. The Ruberg vehicle entered the eastbound lane when it was struck by an eastbound 2016 model Freightliner tractor trailer operated by Austin Lee Van Klompe of Maurice,Iowa. The impact caused Ruberg to be ejected from her vehicle. She was taken to the Humboldt County Hospital by ambulance where she died of her injuries. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, Humboldt Police and Humboldt Fire Department all assisted at the scene with the Iowa State Patrol.
