A Blairsburg motorist was injured in an accident on Saturday afternoon, November 1st west of Blairsburg. The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department reported a southbound 2011 model Ford F250 pickup operated by Donald Johnson of Blairsburg was on Poplar Grove Avenue was struck by an eastbound Canadian National train. When authorities arrived, Johnson was inside the truck conscious and complaining of chest pain as he was trapped inside the vehicle. The train then carried the pickup Johnson was operating about a quarter of a mile before coming to rest. Rescue crews cut Johnson out of the vehicle by the Williams Fire Department. Johnson was then transported first to Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City and then on to Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines for treatment of his injuries. There was an estimated $25,000 in damages to the pickup. Damage to the train was estimated at $50,000The accident was investigated by Hamilton County Deputy Ethan Krieger.
