Ellsworth city council looks at creating an ordinance for regulations on E-bikes.

For those who operate electric bikes in Ellsworth, the Ellsworth City Council will be working on an ordinance for regulations on the devices. The council has received several complaints from citizens on the use of the devices in town by young children. During a meeting last Tuesday evening, the Ellsworth City Council reviewed the ordinance from Humboldt that would be an example  for Ellsworth to adopt. Council members discussed definitions and the types and classes of these electric vehicles. There was a discussion the need for local governance that could be enforced by local law enforcement. The council approved working with Ellsworth City Attorney Austin Heeren on preparing an ordinance for the City of Ellsworth similar to the ordinance in Humboldt for the E-bikes. The proposed ordinance will be reviewed at a future city council meeting.

The Ellsworth City Council heard from city clerk Heidi Eckers on the data continuing to be collected and shared with the Iowa State University College of Design Comprehensive Planning project. The next community meeting is set for this Monday evening,November 3rd at 6:30 p.m. at the Ellsworth Community Center. All residents are encouraged to the meeting. There was an update on the progress of the Ellsworth mural in the city park. A celebration and unveiling will be held on Friday,November 14th at 4:00 p.m. in the Ellsworth City Park with a ribbon cutting ,food truck, live music and a dedication plaque will be presented. The council voted to open the Ellsworth Park Shelter house for a meal following the unveiling of the new mural.

In another matter, the Ellsworth City Council approved the payment of the invoice to Thompson Construction for roof replacement work to the school building at $39,525.20. The costs will originate from Bingo funds .

The date of Saturday,February 7th was set for the South High Pride event at the Ellsworth Gym. Hours will be from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.that day with concessions available to those attending. There will be no Bingo that evening.
