Webster City’s football season ends at MOC-Floyd Valley, 38-19

ORANGE CITY — The Webster City Lynx football team returned to action on Friday night, as they made the long trip into northwest Iowa to take on the MOC-Floyd Valley Dutchmen in Class 3A, District 1 action at Korver Field on the campus of Northwestern College. Webster City entered at 3-5 and 2-2 in district play, while MOC-Floyd Valley entered at 4-4 and 1-3 in district play.

Webster City took the football first and took nearly the entire first quarter off the clock with a 10;30 minute drive, capped off by a 29-yard field goal from Israel Torres as the Lynx took a 3-0 lead. MOC-Floyd Valley answered with a vengeance as a flea flicker pass from Carson Carmichael hit tight end Henry Heller for a 65-yard touchdown to put the Dutchmen up 6-3. The Lynx got the football back and marched into Dutchmen territory, but a 43-yard field goal from Israel Torres missed the mark as MOC-Floyd Valley went down the field on the legs of Dylan Maasdam and scored on a 2-yard touchdown run by Maasdam as the Dutchment went up 13-3 at the halftime break.

The 2nd half saw the Dutchmen break the game open with an 80-yard touchdown run by Dylan Maasdam as MOC-Floyd Valley went up 20-3 after the first play of the half. Webster City responded on their 2nd drive of the 2nd half, marching down and scoring on a 3-yard touchdown run by Jaxon Griffith to bring the score to 20-10, but the Dutchmen would respond on a 57-yard touchdown run to Henry Heller to regain a 3-score lead at 26-10. After a Lynx drive stalled, MOC-Floyd Valley scored on Dylan Maasdam’s 3rd touchdown run of the night from 15 yards out to take a 33-10 lead going into the 4th quarter. Webster City would punch in another score on a 1-yard touchdown run by Aiden Hrnicek to make the score 33-18 after the 2-point conversion, but a scoop and score by touted Dutchmen lineman Draeden Punt sealed a 39-18 win for MOC-Floyd Valley.

Jaxon Griffith led the way offensively for Webster City in his final game, with 28 carries for 172 yards and a touchdown, while Aiden Hrnicek added 38 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Griffith and Gavin Wynkoop would also add TFL’s on the defensive side.

Webster City football’s season ends with a record of 3-6 for the 2nd year in a row, while MOC-Floyd Valley ends their season with a record of 5-4.
