Clarion-Goldfield-Dows volleyball season ends at Alta-Aurelia, 3-0

ALTA — The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls volleyball team returned to action on Monday night as they made the trip into northwestern Iowa to take on the Alta-Aurelia Warriors in Class 2A, Region 7 action at Alta-Aurelia High School. CGD entered at 6-19, while Alta-Aurelia entered at 15-9 out of the Twin Lakes Conference.

It would be Alta-Aurelia dominating at the open of Monday night’s match, as the Warriors took the opening set 25-11. Set 2 started off in a similar manner, but CGD found their rhythm in the back half of the set as the Warriors held on for a 25-19 win, but the Cowgirls would trade the lead back-and-forth throughout much of the 3rd set. However, it was Alta-Aurelia that pulled away at the end for a 25-22 win and a 3-0 sweep.

The KQWC Player of the Game was CGD senior Claire Kirstein, who had a team-high 9 kills in her final game, while Jacqueline Kirstein finished with 7 kills.

Alta-Aurelia advances to face Aplington-Parkersburg in the Class 2A, Region 7 quarterfinals on Wednesday, with first serve at 7 PM. CGD’s season ends at 6-20.
