South Hamilton football falls to Manson-Northwest Webster, 41-12

JEWELL — The South Hamilton Hawks football team returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the Manson-Northwest Webster Cougars in Class 1A, District 2 action for senior night at Bill Taylor Field in Jewell. South Hamilton entered at 0-7 and 0-4 in district play, while Manson-Northwest Webster entered at 5-2 and 4-0 in district play.

Manson-Northwest Webster took the opening kickoff and would march down and score on a 22-yard touchdown run by Mason Anderson as the Cougars went ahead 7-0. South Hamilton answered on the ensuing drive as Wyatt Gelder ripped off a 51-yard touchdown run as the Hawks would cut the score to 7-6 by the end of the first quarter. Manson would score early in the 2nd quarter on an 18-yard touchdown run by Coy Moline to take a 14-6 lead, but South Hamilton responded with a 76-yard touchdown run by Wyatt Gelder as the Hawks made the score 14-12. The Cougars answered with a 1-yard touchdown run by Coy Moline to take a 21-12 lead, as the Manson defense forced a South Hamilton punt before punching in another touchdown on 30-yard touchdown pass from Coy Moline to Jack Hoeppner as the Cougars led 28-12 at halftime.

The 3rd quarter was quiet until Manson-Northwest Webster scored on a 4-yard run by Coy Moline to make the score 34-12, as the final Manson touchdown came on a 53-yard touchdown pass from Isaiah Daggett to Coy Moline as the Cougars took home a 41-12 victory.

Wyatt Gelder had another big game on the ground, rushing for 194 yards and 2 touchdowns on 19 carries, while adding 3.5 tackles. Maddux Becker had 11 carries for 37 yards along with 1.5 sacks, while Ben Swenson added 5.5 tackles, 2 TFL and 1.5 sacks.

South Hamilton football returns to action on Friday, when they host Eagle Grove for a Week 9 non-district matchup at Bill Taylor Field, with kickoff at 7 PM.
