STORY CITY — The Roland-Story Norsemen football team returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the Oelwein Huskies in Class 2A, District 4 action at Kerry Van Winkle Field in Story City. Roland-Story entered at 5-2 and 4-0 in district play, while Oelwein entered at 0-7 and 0-4 in district play.
Oelwein would go three-and-out on their opening drive as Roland-Story would score in 5 plays as Colin Willis hit Luke Thoreson for a 4-yard touchdown pass to put the Norsemen up 7-0. Following a botched punt from Oelwein, the Norsemen scored on a 7-yard pop pass from Willis to Thoreson to put Roland-Story up 14-0, before scoring on the first play of their next drive on a 53-yard touchdown run by Cody Long to put the Norsemen ahead 21-0. Oelwein would score on a 34-yard touchdown pass early in the 2nd quarter from Maddox Pattison to Bryce Kunkle to make the score 21-6, but Roland-Story answered back as Colin Willis and Luke Thoreson connected for their 3rd touchdown pass of the night, as the Norsemen went up 28-6. Cooper Triggs would score on the following drive to put Roland-Story up 35-6, before Colin Willis went deep and found Triggs for a 65-yard touchdown pass as the Norsemen led 42-6 at halftime.
Roland-Story took the football out of the halftime break and used up over half of the 3rd quarter, as Luke Thoreson scored his 4th touchdown of the night on a pop pass as the Norsemen went up 49-6, as Cooper Triggs added on shortly thereafter on a pick six as the Norsemen led 55-6. Tucker Hawkins would add a garbage time touchdown late as Roland-Story capped a 62-6 win.
The KQWC Player of the Game was Roland-Story junior Luke Thoreson, who tallied a school-record 14 receptions for 126 yard and another record 4 touchdowns. Colin Willis went 16-for-20 for 229 yards and tied a school-record 5 touchdowns. Cooper Triggs would score 3 touchdowns, as Wyatt Ramus led the defense with 5 tackles and 1 TFL.
Roland-Story football returns to action on Friday night, as they open the Class 2A Playoffs by hosting the Anamosa Raiders in 1st round action with kickoff at 7 PM at Kerry Van Winkle Field.
