Eagle Grove football falls to (1A) #1 Grundy Center on Friday, 49-0

GRUNDY CENTER — The Eagle Grove Eagles football team returned to action on Friday night, as they made the trip east into Grundy County to take on the Grundy Center Spartans in Class 1A, District 3 action at Spartan Field. Eagle Grove entered at 2-5 and 1-3 in district play, while Grundy Center entered at 7-0, 4-0 in district play, ranked #1 in Class 1A and owners of a 46-game winning streak.

Eagle Grove took the football first, gaining a first down before turning it over on downs as Grundy Center would march down and scored on an 8-yard touchdown pass from Judd Jirvosky to Pete Lebo as the Spartans took a 7-0 lead. Following an Eagle Grove punt, the Spartans scored on a 34-yard touchdown pass from Judd Jirvosky to Pete Lebo for a second time to put Grundy Center up 14-0, as Lebo scored his 3rd touchdown of the first half on a 3-yard run to put the Spartans ahead 21-0 early in the 2nd quarter. Grundy Center would score once more on a Judd Jirvosky 13-yard touchdown pass to Cash Combs to make it 28-0, as Jirvosky would score a touchdown on the ground before halftime as Grundy Center led 35-0 at the halftime break.

Grundy Center took the football first in the 2nd half and scored on a 38-yard touchdown pass from Judd Jirvosky to Devin Hinders to put the Spartans up 42-0, as Grundy Center put the finishing touches on things with a 2-yard touchdown from Hayden Geerdes to bring the final to 49-0.

Trenton Robinson was the Eagles leading rusher with 61 yards on 16 carries, as Adrian Whipple was 1-for-6 for 14 yards and 2 interceptions. Hayden Schafer led the Eagles with 7.5 tackles, as Arturo Reyna-Salazar had 4.5 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss.

Eagle Grove football returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Jewell to take on South Hamilton in a Week 9 game at Bill Taylor Field with kickoff at 7 PM.
