Des Moines semi driver escapes injury in Friday afternoon crash on Highway 69 near Little Wall Lake.

A Des Moines semi driver escaped injury in a semi accident south of Jewell on U.S. Highway 69 at 2:30 last Friday afternoon. The Iowa State Patrol reported a southbound 2018 model Mack tractor trailer operated by Joseph Dycus of Des Moines was traversing a slight curve to the left. The right tires of the Dycus semi went on to the shoulder of the highway when he over corrected rolling the semi on the passenger side. Dycus told the investigating trooper that he was not paying attention as he was turning on the windshield wipers and over corrected his rig once it left the roadway. The damage to the semi was estimated at $20,000. The semi is owned by Harms Oil Company of Brookings, South Dakota. A mailbox owned by Aaron Fopma of Jewell received $200 in estimated damage in the Friday afternoon accident. Investigating trooper Jesse Davenport cited Joseph Dycus with Failure to Maintain Control.
