CLARION — The Webster City Lynx and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls volleyball teams returned to action on Thursday night, as the two conference rivals renewed their series at CGD High School in Clarion. Webster City entered at 17-10, while CGD entered at 6-18.
Thursday’s opening set would be close early on with the score tied at 12-12, but Webster City found rhythm behind CGD mistakes to take the opener 25-17. Set 2 was much of the same story as the Lynx won 25-18, but set 3 saw Webster City jump out to a big lead, up 18-8 at one point. CGD would rally to cut it to 3, but the Lynx would slam the door shut for a 25-19 win and a 3-0 victory.
The KQWC Player of the Game for Webster City was junior Tristyn Wright, who finished with a game-high 14 kills, as Avery Poppen finished with 7 kills, as Ashlee Nydegger finished with 4 kills and 3 aces.
The KQWC Player of the Game for CGD was sophomore Ella Finneran, who finished with a team-high 5 kills with 2 aces and a block, as Claire Kirstein finished with 4 kills and an ace.
Webster City volleyball returns to action on Saturday, when they compete in the Winterset Tournament at Winterset High School, beginning at 9 AM. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows volleyball returns to action on Monday, when they open postseason play at Alta-Aurelia in Class 2A, Region 2 action with first serve at 7 PM on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
