Stanhope City Council welcomes Jori Young as new City Clerk.

The Stanhope City Council welcomed Jori Young as the new city clerk during this week’s meeting of the council. Young was one of the three people interviewed for the position during a special city council meeting of September 29th. The council was informed of the upcoming city council election set for November 4th. The race for mayor of Stanhope will have Jeff Schroeder facing Roger Hayes,Jr. Thomas Stupp, Devin Hensley and Mindy Hetland all vying for the two seats on the city council for a four-year term. There is a two-year term on the Stanhope City Council with no candidate announced.  Information on the electrical audit was presented by Stanhope mayor pro-tem Kempton Young at this week’s meeting. There has been no increase in the electrical rate since 2014. A copy of the Cash Flow Projection dated August 7th of this year was made available to those in attendance. The recommendation from the audit firm is to have a 3 percent increase the first year and a 2 percent increase in the following years.

The Stanhope City Council heard from mayor pro-tem Young on the progress of the park insurance claim. A bid to replace all damaged tables with polyurethane tables versus a combination of wood and polyurethane tables was discussed along with a bid from Bill Murry to repair remaining damage to the bingo stand, jungle gym and shelter house. These numbers will be turned over to the insurance company. The Stanhope City Council approved the request.

The Stanhope CIT project is nearing completion. The mapping for Highway 17 still needs to be completed. Approximately $9,500 remains to complete that portion of the project. The CIT report provided the city with suggested repairs and things that need to be fixed including fixing clay tiles, break outs, gaps in pipes and tree root concerns. There are a few that would need to be dug to repair. Further discussion will continue at next month’s city council meeting.

The Trick or Treat hours in Stanhope is set for Friday, October 31st from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.  The EJS (Ellsworth Jewell Stanhope) Police board has hired a replacement officer. The person will need to go through the academy. EJS Police Chief Caleb Morton will keep the council updated.
