Know The Foe Week 8: South Hamilton vs. Manson-Northwest Webster

The South Hamilton Hawks football team returns to action on Friday night, as they host the Cougars of Manson-Northwest Webster in Class 1A, District 2 action for senior night at Bill Taylor Field in Jewell. South Hamilton enters Friday with a record of 0-7 and 0-4 in district play, while Manson-Northwest Webster enters at 5-2 and 4-0 in district play. Friday’s game is the 11th all-time meeting between the 2 programs, as South Hamilton leads the all-time series 8-2 and won the most recent meeting in 2022 by a score of 54-12.

Manson enters Friday game on a 5-game winning streak following an 0-2 start to the season, as the Cougars have a non-district win over Ogden, with district wins over East Sac County, Pocahontas Area, Emmetsburg and South Central Calhoun, with non-district losses to Southeast Valley and MVAOCOU. The Cougars have employed a variation of the single wing offense in 2025, as their quarterback Isaiah Daggett has thrown for 468 yards and 2 touchdowns, as leading rusher Coy Moline has thrown 8 passes, completing 5 of them for 231 yards and 2 scores. Jack Hoeppner has been the big play receiver, catching 7 passes for 362 yards and 3 touchdowns, averaging an eye-popping 51.7 yards per reception. Charlie Sturgis has added 5 catches for 101 yards and a touchdown. The Cougars rushing attack is led by the aforementioned Coy Moline, who’s rushed for 941 yards and 10 touchdowns, while junior Tegan Thoma has added 254 yards and 4 touchdowns. A veteran offensive line anchors the Manson unit, led by the likes of senior Carter Van Waes and Jaggar Wolfe.

The Cougars defense is led by a veteran linebacking core, headlined by senior Carter Van Waes, who’s tallied a team-high 49 tackles with 5 TFL and a sack. Mason Anderson has added 43.5 tackles and 1.5 TFL, Coy Moline has 36 tackles, 1.5 TFL and 2 interceptions and Tegan Thoma has 28 tackles, 2 picks and 2 pass breakups. The defensive line is a veteran unit led by junior Charlie Sturgis, who’s racked up 32.5 tackles, 8 TFL and 3 sacks, as junior Jaggar Wolfe has added 17.5 tackles, 4 TFL and 2 sacks. The defensive backfield is led by senior Jack Hoeppner, who’s totaled 27 tackles, 3 TFL and a team-high 3 interceptions.

South Hamilton will try and salvage a win against the district champions, as the Hawks offense will try and put together consistent offensive drives and shorten the game with the help of 1A’s leading rusher in Wyatt Gelder. The Hawk defense will have it’s hands full with an athletic Manson skill group and a physical offensive line.
