The Roland-Story Norsemen football team returns to action on Friday night, as they host the Oelwein Huskies in Class 2A, District 4 action at Kerry Van Winkle Field in Story City. The Norsemen enter at 5-2 and 4-0 in district play, while Oelwein enters at 0-7 and 0-4 in district play. Friday’s game is the first all-time meeting between the two programs.
Oelwein enters Friday in search of their first win since 2022, as the Huskies are 0-7 on the year with non-district losses to Charles City, Waukon and Union Community, with district losses to Dike-New Hartford, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Vinton-Shellsburg, and Denver. The Huskies offense is directed by senior quarterback Maddox Pattison, who’s thrown for over 1,500 yards and 12 touchdowns, while rushing for over 100 yards as well. Pattison’s favorite target has been freshman Luis Pineda, who’s caught 36 passes for 448 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Caleb DeTemmerman has 28 receptions for 587 yards and 6 touchdowns, and Landon Rechkemmer has 19 catches for 287 yards and 2 scores. It has been a struggle for the Oelwein rushing attack, as the aforementioned Pattison is the Huskies leading rusher, while Bryce Kunkle and Noah Williams have not cracked 100 yards on the season.
The Huskies defense has been highlighted by a few standout individuals, as linebacker Bryce Kunkle is the teams leading tackler with 37 tackles and 5 TFL, as fellow linebacker Tyler Lucas has 28.5 tackles. The defensive line is led by junior Parker Kuennen, who has 12.5 tackles, 4.5 TFL and a sack, while senior Spencer Michels has 11 tackles and 2.5 TFL. Maddox Pattison leads the Huskies defensive backfield with 24.5 tackles.
Roland-Story is in line to clinch an outright district title on Friday night, as avoiding turnovers will be the #1 key for the Norsemen against the Huskies and for the rest of the season.
Kickoff is slated for 7 PM on Friday Night from Kerry Van Winkle Field and can be heard on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
