MONROE — The Roland-Story Norsemen and South Hamilton Hawks cross country teams returned to action on Monday afternoon, as they competed in the annual Heart of Iowa Conference meet at Gateway Recreation in Monroe. The Norsemen and Hawks were joined by Grand View Christian, Greene County, Nevada, PCM, Perry, Saydel and West Marshall.
Roland-Story’s boys placed 8th in the team race with 166 points, but the Norsemen did boast the conference champion as junior Corbin Lucchesi won the race with a time of 17:09.60, nearly 17 seconds faster than 2nd place. Evan Byersdorfer was 36th in 20:12.43, Henry Dahlsten was 43rd in 20:27.01, Josiah Potratz was 51st in 21:14.39, as Dakota Lowe rounded out scoring in 63rd with a time of 21:14.39.
South Hamilton’s boys place 9th in the meet with 202 points, as they had a top 5 finisher in junior Jesus Garcia, who placed 4th in a time of 17:41.90, as Hayden Hill was 20th in 19:00.02. Trevor Zanker was 78th in 23:40.40, Kaden Greenlee was 83rd in 23:56.36 as Miguel Martinez rounded out scoring in 85th with a time of 24:11.08.
Roland-Story’s girls would be 4th in the team race with 109 points, as their top placer was Kara Patterson, who finished 10th in 21:46.37, while Sophie Bates was 13th in 22:09.71. Hadley Carlson was 29th in 24:11.62, Gracey Haberl was 31st in 24:31.27 as Logan Lande was 38th in 25:17.08 to round out scoring.
South Hamilton’s girls would be 7th in the team race with 178 points, as their top placer was senior Olivia Beaune, who placed 22nd in a time of 23:29.74, while Cici Herrick was 36th in 25:13.58. Bianca Seaton was 48th in 26:53.87, Kayley Zanker was 50th in 27:19.69, while Isabel Swenson rounded out scoring in 61st in a time of 30:23.62.
