JEWELL — The South Hamilton Hawks football team returned to action on Friday night, when they hosted the Emmetsburg E-Hawks in Class 1A, District 2 action on homecoming night at Bill Taylor Field in Jewell. South Hamilton entered at 0-6 and 0-3 in district play, while Emmetsburg entered at 4-2 and 2-1 in district play.
South Hamilton took the football first and marched inside the Emmetsburg 10-yard line, but a fumble gave the ball to the E-Hawks. Emmetsburg then drove 92-yards and capped the drive on a Brennan Hasbrouck touchdown run to put the E-Hawks up 7-0. South Hamilton would answer on their ensuing drive, taking up the back half of the first quarter and nearly half the 2nd quarter as Wyatt Gelder 9-yard touchdown run to put the Hawks up 8-7 after the two-point conversion. Emmetsburg would respond 2 drives later as Brennan Hasbrouck took the first play 61-yards for a touchdown to put the E-Hawks up 15-7, as a fumble on the ensuing South Hamilton drive resulted in a short field and a 2-yard touchdown run by Bradyen Yates as Emmetsburg led 23-8 at halftime.
The 2nd half would see Emmetsburg impose their will on both sides of the football on South Hamilton, as the E-Hawks scored on their opening drive of the half on a Bradyen Yates touchdown to put the E-Hawks up 30-8. The E-Hawks would punch in one more touchdown in the 4th quarter to help clinch a 37-8 victory.
The KQWC Player of the Game was South Hamilton sophomore Wyatt Gelder, who finished with 27 carries for 133 yards and a touchdown, while Jose Babcock finished with 17 carries for 74 yards.
South Hamilton football returns to action on Friday night, when they host Manson-Northwest Webster in Class 1A, District 2 action for Senior Night at Bill Taylor Field with kickoff at 7 PM.
