ELDORA — The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys football team returned to action on Friday night, as they made the trip into Hardin County to take on the South Hardin Tigers in Class 1A, District 3 action at Tiger Field in Eldora. CGD entered at 4-2 and 2-1 in district play, while South Hardin entered at 5-1, 2-1 in district play and ranked #6 in Class 1A.
Friday’s first quarter would be scoreless as both defenses played at high-levels through the opening 12 minutes, but it was South Hardin first on the board just before the 2 minute mark of the 2nd quarter on a Kameron Adams 3-yard touchdown run as the Tigers took a 6-0 halftime lead.
The first points of the 2nd half would be scored on a safety by the South Hardin defense, as the Tigers took an 8-0 lead and would extend the lead by the end of the quarter on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Peyton Welch to Casey Williamson to put the Tigers up 16-0. The 4th quarter would then belong to South Hardin with 2, fourth-quarter scores from Kameron Adams to cap a 29-0 South Hardin victory.
The top performers for CGD came on defense, as Huxley Lingenfelter had a staggering 15 tackles with 3 tackles for loss, while Kolton Hefti, Dawson Beyer and Paxton Lingenfelter all recorded interceptions. The Cowboy defense in total forced 6 turnovers.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows football returns to action on Friday night, when they travel up US 69 to take on the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Cardinals in Class 1A, District 3 finale action with kickoff at 7 PM.
