JEWELL — The South Hamilton Hawks, Roland-Story Norsemen and Eagle Grove Eagles cross country teams returned to action on Thursday afternoon, as they competed in the annual Jim Klein Invitational at Jewell Golf and Country Club. The Hawks, Norsemen and Eagles were joined by AC/GC, BCLUW, Collins-Maxwell, Colo-NESCO, East Marshall, Lynnville-Sully, Madrid, Meskwaki, Newman Catholic, Ogden, Panorama and West Marshall.
Roland-Story would finish 7th as a team in the boys race with 164 points, but the Norsemen did have the meet champion as Corbin Lucchesi recorded his 2nd win of the year with a time of 17:01.40, as Evan Byersdorfer was 33rd in 19:34.19. Henry Dahlsten was 41st in a time of 20:10.98, Dakota Lowe was 50th in 20:24.15, while Josiah Potratz rounded out varsity scoring in 56th with a time of 20:59.91.
Eagle Grove had the highest team finish, placing 5th with 156 points as their top placer was Hunter Waldo-Martinez, who placed 21st in a time of 18:58.94, while Felix Reyes was 28th in a time of 19:12.62. Felix Gonzalez finished 31st in 19:25.38, Asarel Castro was 38th in 19:59.70, as Anthony Vasquez rounded out scoring in 53rd with a time of 20:50.14.
South Hamilton would finish 10th as a team with 235 points, but did have 2, top-10 finishes as Jesus Garcia was 8th in 17:54.79, as Hayden Hill was 9th in a time of 18:02.33. Kaden Greenlee would finish 77th in 22:25.24, Evan Gibson was 78th in 22:25.67 and Trevor Zanker rounded out scoring in 82nd with a time of 23:10.58.
In the girls race, Roland-Story placed 4th with 105 points, as their top placer was Kara Patterson, who finished 12th in a time of 21:12.55, as Sophie Bates was 14th in a time of 21:34.32. Gracey Haberl was 23rd in 22:27.79, Brinley Carlson was 36th in 23:10.47 as Hadley Carlson rounded out scoring in 37th with a time of 23:27.75.
South Hamilton placed 10th in the girls race with 231 points, as their top placer was Olivia Beaune, who finished 21st in a time of 22:13.72, as Cici Herrick was 43rd in 23:50.86. Bianca Seaton was 64th in 26:00.28, Isabel Swenson was 70th in 26:36.86, as Kayley Zanker rounded out scoring in 79th with a time of 27:30.91.
Eagle Grove’s girls would not competes as a complete team, as their top placer was Myka Anderson, who placed 31st in a time of 22:58.91. Lydia Kienzle was 60th in 25:32.11, Ingrid Pull was 73rd in 26:52.46, as Ruby Coldiron finished 95th in a time of 33:52.85.
South Hamilton and Roland-Story cross country returns to action on Monday, when they compete in the Heart of Iowa Conference Meet at Gateway Recreation in Monroe beginning at 4:30 PM. Eagle Grove cross country returns to action next Thursday, when they compete in the Top of Iowa Conference meet at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City beginning at 4 PM.
