The Webster City Lynx football team returns to action on Friday night, when they host the Sioux Center Warriors in Class 3A, District 1 action at Lynx Field in Webster City. Webster City enters at 2-3, while Sioux Center enters at 4-1. Friday’s game is the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
Sioux Center enters at 4-1, as they lost their district opener to #3 Bishop Heelan 29-15, as the Warriors went undefeated in non-district play with wins over Unity Christian, Sheldon, LeMars and Spencer. The Warriors are in the midst of a bounce-back season after a 1-8 campaign in 2024, as they are led offensively by junior quarterback Ezra Hibma, who’s thrown for over 800 yards and 11 touchdowns, as well as rushing for 200 yards and 2 touchdowns. Hibma’s favorite target is senior running back Joseph Molina, who’s caught 12 passes for 158 yards and 4 touchdowns, while receiver Bradeon Perez-Hietbrink has 9 catches for 271 yards and a touchdown. Molina leads the Warriors in rushing with 318 yards and 2 touchdowns on 50 carries, while fellow senior Cody Sandbulte has 59 carries for 297 yards and 5 touchdowns. The Warriors do have size up front, with players such as Colton Mouw and Riley Wolfswinkel.
Defensively, the second and third levels of the unit have been the strength for Sioux Center this year. The Warriors back seven have recorded 9 interceptions and 2 pick sixes, as senior DB Lane Waddle has 3 interceptions and 9.5 tackles, while senior linebacker Jake Lane and senior defensive back Cody Sandbulte have pick sixes, with Sandbulte leading the Warriors with 33 tackles, 7 TFL and 2 sacks. The defensive line has been a more unit wide effort as opposed to standout individuals, as senior Brendan Lamfers leads the group with 11 tackles and 3 TFL.
Webster City will look to build off their 21-14 win over Humboldt, in which their offense ran nearly triple the amount of plays to the Wildcats. A fast start for the Lynx will be wanted as the Warriors have been susceptible to slow starts in all of 2025. The Lynx defense will need a complete performance as the Sioux Center offense has showcased a balance that the Webster City defense has not seen much of this year.
Kickoff is slated for 7 PM on Friday Night from Lynx Field, and can be heard on AM 1570 KZWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
