ALGONA — The Webster City Lynx and Eagle Grove Eagles cross country teams returned to action on Monday night, as they made the trip to Kossuth County to compete in the Algona Invitational at River Road Golf Club in Algona. The Lynx and Eagles were joined by the host Bulldogs, as well as Bishop Garrigan, Charles City, Clear Lake, Emmetsburg, Estherville Lincoln Central, Forest City, Fort Dodge, Humboldt, Mason City, North Union, Pocahontas Area, Spirit Lake, St. Edmond, Waverly-Shell Rock and West Bend-Mallard.
Webster City would place 7th in a highly-competitive boys meet with 197 points, as Justin Callahan was the top placer, finishing 11th in 17:58.42, while Jack Barner was 34th in 18:56.45. Gabe Thumma placed 43rd in 19:06.65, Aidan Wardell was 49th in 19:17.52, while Kyzer Zinnel was 65th in 20:11.63 to round out varsity scoring.
Eagle Grove would finish 9th with 258 points, as Hunter Waldo-Martinez was their top placer, finishing 35th in 18:58.27, as Felix Gonzalez finished 51st in 19:23.75. Felix Reyes was 52nd in 19:26.54, Asarel Castro was 58th in 19:59.03, as Cooper Thacker rounded out scoring in 69th with a time of 20:36.81.
In the girls race, Webster City finished 10th with 268 points as Izzy Grossoehme was the top placer, finishing 31st in 23:10.23, while McKenna Buakham was 69th in 26:08.06. Marlene Saavendra-Mendoza was 73rd in 26:26.98, Julia Griep was 74th in 26:37.26, while Ruby Andrande-Murillo was 77th in 27:07.42 to round out the lineup.
Eagle Grove did not compete as a full team, as Lydia Kienzle was their top placer in 81st with a time of 27:22.44, while Ingrid Pull was 89th in 31:32.85. Ruby Coldiron rounded out the line up in 90th in a time of 36:15.19.
Webster City cross country returns to action on Thursday, when they compete in the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Invitational at Maynes Grove Park at 4:40 PM. Eagle Grove cross country returns to action next Tuesday, when they host their annual Dick Bell Invitational at Eagle Grove Golf Course.
