Ellsworth City Council to look at watertower bids come 2026.

This week, the Ellsworth City Council postponed a future bid for an elevated water tower until early in the first quarter of 2026. Ellsworth is looking at plans to construct a new elevated water tower to replace the current tower and to make it modern for residents and businesses in Ellsworth.

The city council accepted the resignation of Ellsworth Library director Karlie Hunter. Advertisements have been posted online. Ellsworth mayor Dolorus Yager held a conversation she had with Hunter concerning the historic library quilt possibly being donated to the Ellsworth Historical Museum. Hunter will reach out to Museum director Janet Adix and discuss the options.

Ellsworth city council members approved setting the date of Saturday, April 25th,2026 for the annual Dump Your Junk program for the residents. The potential location of the dumpsters being in front of the city sheds instead of the Co-op.

The council received an invitation to participate in the tree planting at the Ellsworth City Park on Monday, October 6th from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Sack lunches will be provided by the Jewell Market for the South Hamilton students and the volunteers. The public is welcome to come help as well. Participants are asked to bring their shovels. The Iowa Economic Development Authority Downtown assessment was held this past Monday. Ellsworth City Clerk Heidi Eckers took notes from the meeting. The full report should be available for the city council and the public in four weeks. There will also be a Community Meeting set for October 24th at 6:30 p.m. with further information on the meeting to be announced at the next city council meeting.

In another matter, the Ellsworth City Council approved the request from Travis Anderson for the South Hamilton basketball teams to use the Ellsworth Gym for basketball practices Sunday through Fridays from early October to the beginning of March. There will be four teams using the gym, each paying the city of Ellsworth $100 as a lump sum for the duration of the use,no guaranteeing city staff will do the teardown and set up, but when available offering city staff help.
