ELDORA — The Eagle Grove Eagles football team returned to action on Friday night, as they traveled into Hardin County to take on the South Hardin Tigers in their Class 1A, District 3 opener in Eldora. Eagle Grove entered at 1-2, while South Hardin entered at 3-0 and ranked #4 in Class 1A.
Eagle Grove would punt on their opening possession, and South Hardin took quick advantage as running back Kameron Adams took the first play for an 80-yard touchdown run to put the Tigers ahead 7-0. South Hardin would force another Eagle punt, followed by a more conventional drive that was capped off by a 4-yard touchdown run to take a 14-0 lead. Eagle Grove’s ensuing drive would end with an interception, leading to South Hardin going up top and scoring on a 44-yard touchdown pass from Peyton Welch to Casey Williamson to put the Tigers ahead 21-0 late in the 1st quarter. The Eagles first drive of the 2nd quarter was promising, but ended in a South Hardin interception, as the Tigers marched down and scored on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Peyton Welch to Josh Spindler to put the Tigers up 28-0, which would be the score at halftime.
South Hardin started off the 2nd half fast, as Peyton Welch went up top to Jake Balvanz for a 37-yard touchdown pass to put the Tigers ahead 35-0, as the Tigers scored once more in the 3rd quarter on a Manning Pfantz 1-yard touchdown run to put South Hardin up 42-0 after three quarters. Eagle Grove would score 2 touchdowns in the 4th quarter, one on an Adrian Whipple quarterback sneak and another on a Gavin Pedersen reverse for a 52-yard touchdown run to bring the final to 42-16.

Eagle Grove football returns to action on Friday, when they host Central Springs in Class 1A, District 3 action at Gene Hinrichsen Field with kickoff at 7 PM.
