Webster City, Roland-Story and Eagle Grove cross country compete in Mike Carr Invitational in Huxley

HUXLEY — The Webster City Lynx, Roland-Story Norsemen and Eagle Grove Eagles cross country teams returned to action on Monday night, as they made the drive to southern Story County to compete in the Mike Carr Invitational at Ballard Golf and Country Club in Huxley. The Lynx, Norsemen and Eagles were joined by the hosts Ballard, as well as ADM, Atlantic, Bondurant-Farrar, Boone, Des Moines North, Iowa Falls-Alden, Madrid, Nevada, Nodaway Valley, North Polk, Pella Christian, Van Meter and Woodward-Granger.

Monday’s highlight would see Roland-Story junior Corbin Lucchesi claim the Class B individual title, winning the race in a time of 17:38.00, as the Norsemen finished 7th as a team with 148 points. Henry Dahlsten was 25th in 20:14.2, Evan Byersdorfer was 35th in 21:08.8, Dakota Lowe finished 42nd in 22:17.7, as Josiah Potratz rounded out scoring in 45th with a time of 22:32.5.

Eagle Grove would place 6th with 143 points, as Hunter Waldo-Martinez was the top placer by finishing 13th in 19:08.3, while Felix Reyes placed 18th in 19:31.7. Felix Gonzalez placed 33rd in 21:03.2, Asarel Castro was 38th in 21:18.7, while Cooper Thacker rounded out scoring in 41st with a time of 22:00.5.

Webster City’s boys would place 5th in Class A with 130 points, as Justin Callahan was the top placer, finishing 13th in a time of 18:27.8, as Gabe Thumma placed 22nd in a time of 19:12.3. Aiden Wardell was 26th in 19:37.2, Jack Barner was 34th in 20:55.5, while Kaleb Draeger rounded out scoring in 35th in a time of 21:04.6.

In the girls race, Roland-Story placed 4th with 84 points, just one point behind 3rd-place Madrid. Kara Patterson was the top placer, finishing 7th in a time of 21:44.1, as Sophie Bates finished 11th in a time of 22:54.7. Gracey Haberl was 15th in 23:42.8, Hadley Carlson was 24th in 24:46.4, while Logan Lande rounded out scoring in 27th in a time of 25:24.7.

Webster City would place 6th in Class A with 171 points, as Izzy Grossoehme was the top placer, finishing 21st in a time of 23:19.4, as Mckenna Buakham was 36th in a time of 27:42.2. Megan Vandeer was 37th in 28:12.0, Rubi Andrade-Murillo was 38th in 28:19.2, while Hayden Soesbe was 39th in 28:55.7.

Eagle Grove would not compete as a complete team, as their top placer was sophomore Myka Anderson, who placed 15th in a time of 23:40.5, as Lydia Kienzle placed 41st in 28:30.4. Ingrid Pull placed 43rd in 31:06.7, while Hailey Johnson placed 45th in 37:05.6.

Webster City cross country returns to action next Tuesday, when they compete at the Mason City Invitational at Mason City High School at 6:15 PM. Eagle Grove cross country returns to action on Thursday, when they compete at the Clear Lake Invitational at Veterans Memorial Golf Club beginning at 5:25 PM. Roland-Story cross country returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Panora to compete in the Panorama Invitational beginning at 5:35 PM.
