Webster City football falls in rout to (3A) #3 Clear Lake, 47-7

CLEAR LAKE — The Webster City Lynx football team returned to action on Friday night, as they made the trip north on I-35 to take on the Clear Lake Lions in non-district action at Lions Field in Clear Lake. Webster City entered at 1-1, while Clear Lake entered at 2-0 and ranked #3 in Class 2A.

Clear Lake would score early in the 2nd quarter off a Sam Dodge 35-yard touchdown run to put the Lions ahead 22-0, as the Lions then executed a near-flawless 2-minute drill as Jaxon McIntire sneaked it in from a yard out with 38 seconds to go to put Clear Lake ahead 28-0 at the halftime break.

The 2nd half would see Clear Lake keep their foot on the gas as Kolby Hodnefield broke loose for a 57-yard touchdown run to put the Lions up 34-0. After a 4th down stop of the Lynx offense, Clear Lake would add another score on a 7-yard pass from McIntire to Trevor Theobald to put Clear Lake ahead 40-0 by the end of the 3rd quarter. Clear Lake added one more score early in the 4th quarter to but them up 47-0, as Webster City managed to put together a drive and score on a 1-yard touchdown run by Jaxon Griffith before time expired to bring the final score to 47-7.
