EAGLE GROVE — The Eagle Grove Eagles football team returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the West Fork Warhawks for homecoming and a non-district finale at Gene Hinrichsen Field in Eagle Grove. Eagle Grove entered Friday 1-1, while West Fork entered at 2-0.
It couldn’t have been a better start for Eagle Grove as their opening drive took over 7 minutes off the clock and was capped by a Trenton Robinson 2-yard touchdown run to give the Eagles an initial 8-0 lead. West Fork would respond on their opening drive, after a great return, the Warhawks drive was capped by a Dax Suntken 20-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 8-8. Defenses would rule the 2nd quarter as that 8-8 score held until halftime.
In the 2nd half, West Fork took the opening drive down and scored on a 6-yard touchdown run by Blaine Schulz to put the Warhawks ahead 16-8. A promising ensuing drive by Eagle Grove was thwarted by an errant option pitch recovered by West Fork, as the Warhawks score on a 24-yard run by Tyler Fessler early in the 4th to make the score 22-8. Eagle Grove did have a response on a 19-yard touchdown pass from Adrian Whipple to Gavin Pedersen to make the score 22-16, but that’s all the closer it would get as West Fork’s Blaine Schulz put the stamp on the game with 2 touchdown runs late in the 4th quarter to give the Warhawks a 36-16 win.
The KQWC Player of the Game was Eagle Grove fullback Trenton Robinson, who had 21 carries for 113 yards and a touchdown, as Adrian Whipple was 6-for-12 for 108 yards and a touchdown through the air.
