(3A) #11 Roland-Story volleyball battles top competition in Aplington-Parkersburg Tournament

PARKERSBURG — The Roland-Story Norsemen volleyball team returned to action on Saturday morning, as the made the drive into Butler County to compete in the Aplington-Parkersburg Tournament at Aplington-Parkersburg High School. The Norsemen were joined by the host Falcons, as well as Ankeny Christian, Charles City, Denver, Grundy Center, Wapsie Valley and West Delaware.

Roland-Story would open the day with a 2-0 sweep of (1A) #14 Ankeny Christian with sets of 21-14 and 21-14, before the Norsemen battled the #1 team in 2A in the Denver Cyclones. The Norsemen took the Cyclones to the brink, but fell 2-1 with sets of 21-16, 11-21 and 12-15.

The afternoon saw the Norsemen face another unbeaten opponent in (2A) #4 Grundy Center, and also pushed the Spartans to the brink, falling by a 2-1 margin with sets of 24-22, 14-21, 7-15. Roland-Story ended the day with a 2-0 loss to (3A) #5 West Delaware by sets of 27-29 and 22-25.

Roland-Story volleyball returns to action on Thursday, when they host Nevada in a pivotal Heart of Iowa Conference matchup at Roland-Story High School, beginning at 6:30 PM.
