Stanhope City Council looks at possible rate increase for electricity in the community.

During their Tuesday meeting, Stanhope council member Kempton Young informed the city council that electrical rates have not changed in the community since 2014. Young stated that the city needs to consider a 3 percent increase for 2026 and a 2 percent increase in the following years. The reason it needs to be done is to make sure that Stanhope is staying fiscally responsible as a town. The budget amount and the expenses as of right now have little to no room for other expenses that may occur. The issue will be revisited at the October meeting.

The search for a new Stanhope city clerk is underway with the deadline for all applications set for September 22nd. The Stanhope City Hall is open from 10:00a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays until further notice.

Kempton Young discussed on installing concrete for the apartment complex. The council learned that it would be more than fair to pay for half the concrete and no labor as the city would get volunteers to help with the project.

A fundraiser for the Stanhope Fire Department was reviewed. A dance would be held at the fire station in Stanhope this year in place of a homecoming tailgate.  All cover charges would go to the Stanhope Fire and Rescue. The council approved the recommendation with the date for the dance to be announced at a later date.

Rick Young discussed the Medical Arts Building and Stanhope Depot. Both buildings are now owned by the city. The Medical Arts Building will bring in $400.00 a month from rent for the two businesses that are currently located in there. There was discussion on wanting a new business in the Depot and the Medical Arts Building.

Stanhope Trick or Treating Night is set for Friday, October 31st from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. It was discussed if Envision could use the parking lot across the street from the Community Center to hold the Trunk or Treat event. There will be more discussion on this event at the October Stanhope City Council meeting.
