The Webster City Lynx football team returns to action on Friday night, as they hit the road for the first time in 2025 to take on the Clear Lake Lions in non-district action at Lions Field in Clear Lake. Friday’s meeting is 76th all-time meeting between the two NCC rivals, as Webster City leads the all-time series 47-26-3.
Clear Lake is once again in the forefront of many prognosticator’s minds to compete for the Class 3A Title once again in 2025 and are off to a promising start. The Lions routed Forest City 69-0 in the opener before winning a top-5 battle last week with a 23-7 win over Humboldt. Junior quarterback Jaxson McIntire is off to an efficient start, completing 80% of his passes for 340 yards and 3 touchdowns, while rushing for 2 scores as well. McIntire’s favorite target has been South Hamilton transfer Kolby Hodnefield, who’s caught 12 passes for 177 yards and 3 touchdowns and is a game-breaker at the receiver spot. Sam Dodge takes over as the full-time running back, and has 131 yards and 4 touchdowns on the ground early in the year. Trevor Theobald is someone else to watch in the passing game, as the Lions have a veteran offensive line with Davidae Coleman, Houston Paul and Levi Reynolds.
Defensively, the Lions defensive line has been a strength early, as Drayce Dohlman, Davidae Coleman and Max Larson have all recorded over 2 sacks and 2 TFL. The linebacking core has been solid, as Raif Baack leads the Lions in tackles with 14.5 along with 3 TFL, as senior Dontrel Johnson has 11.5 tackles and 2 TFL. The secondary hasn’t seen much of a test yet, as Jaxson McIntire had the Lions lone interception, as Kolby Hodnefield is a dangerous player at free safety for Clear Lake.
Webster City will try and bounce back following a defensive chess match in Week 2 with their 7-6 loss to a top-10 Fort Dodge team out of Class 4A. The Lynx will not have to worry and identify a Dreshaun Ross offensively on Friday night, but it is a Clear Lake defense that is a fundamentally sound one. Webster City did have a 2nd half lead on the Lions a season ago before Clear Lake rallied and pulled away.
Kickoff is slated for 7 PM on Friday Night at Lions Field, and can be heard on AM 1570 KZWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
