Webster County church to meet for the final time this Sunday,September 14th

DUNCOMBE-A Webster County church will close its doors for the final time this Sunday, September 14th. For over 135 years, the Duncombe United Methodist Church has served the spiritual needs of its members on Warren Street. This Sunday will bring the final service for the church. The church has dwindled in membership the last few years. There were seven attending Sunday’s worship  In 1973, there were 110 members who belonged to the church with its Sunday School, UMW membership, sewing and quilt making, bazaar and auctions, and their Sunday worship. In 1982, there were 69 members of the church. Today the church is in need of repair from its stairs on the west entrance of the church to its ceiling to its downstairs area. The price tag for all the repairs is estimated at $16,000. Today the members are senior citizens with the eldest member turning 100 years of age this November. Sunday’s service will be at 9:30 at Duncombe United Methodist. The remaining members have been invited to attend worship at the Washington Lutheran Church in Duncombe. This is the second time the town of Duncombe will lose a house of worship. The St. Joseph’s Catholic Church ended worship in November,2008 with the demolition of the church in March,2011.
