WEBSTER CITY — The Webster City Lynx football team returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the Fort Dodge Dodgers in non-district action at Lynx Field in Webster City. Webster City entered at 1-0, while Fort Dodge entered at 1-0 and ranked #3 in Class 4A.
Defenses ruled the day on Friday, as neither offense could get any traction through the first quarter, as the score was tied at 0-0. In the 2nd quarter, it was Fort Dodge that put together a 9-play, 80-yard drive and scored on a 6-yard touchdown pass from Tru McBride to Cal Pederson to give the Dodgers a 7-0 lead. Webster City would answer before halftime as Jaxon Griffith scored on a 42-yard touchdown run, as the Lynx trailed 7-6 after the failed PAT.
Webster City would have chances throughout the 2nd half to take advantage, but defenses would continue to reign throughout the ball game as Fort Dodge was finally able to claim a victory over the Lynx with a 7-6 win. The win was Fort Dodge’s first since the series renewed back in 2021.
Our KZWC Player of the Game was junior linebacker Grant Arends, who finished with 7 tackles, 3 pass breakups and an interception. Jaxon Griffith finished with 64 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries, while Aiden Hrnicek went 2/9 for 25 yards, while rushing for 52 yards. Griffith also led Webster City with 11.5 tackles and a TFL.
Webster City football returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Clear Lake to take on the Lions in non-district action at Lions Field with kickoff at 7 PM.
