The Iowa State Patrol investigated a semi accident near Dows at 5:45 a.m on Friday morning, August 29th at the 154 mile marker. Reportedly a northbound 2017 model Freightliner Cascadia driven by Abdifatah Mohamed of Minneapolis went off on to the right shoulder of the highway. Once the truck left the roadway, Mohamed attempted to correct and get back on the roadway. The driver then ended up over correcting the semi to turn over onto its passenger side. It then came to rest across both lanes of Interstate 35 laying on the passenger side. Mohamed was trapped in the semi and was unable to get the driver side door open. A bystander helped Mohamed open the door to get him out of the vehicle prior to the arrival of law enforcement. The driver was then checked over by EMS personnel at the scene. Investigating trooper Nicholas Adams reported the semi that Mohamed was driving was totaled in Friday’s accident.
