Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, South Hamilton and Eagle Grove compete in Cowgirls home tournament

CLARION – The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls, South Hamilton Hawks and Eagle Grove Eagles volleyball teams returned to action on Saturday, as all 3 teams competed in the annual Clarion-Goldfield-Dows tournament at CGD High School. The 3 schools were also joined by Clear Lake, Estherville-Lincoln Central and North Butler.

CGD would go 2-3 on the day in their home tournament, opening with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Eagle Grove with sets of 22-20 and 21-15. The Cowgirls then fell to South Hamilton in a 3-set match by a 2-1 margin with sets of 13-21, 21-12, 9-15. Match #3 saw CGD fall to Clear Lake 2-0 with sets of 11-21 and 10-21, before North Butler defeated the Cowgirls with a 3-set match with scores of 21-11, 19-21 and 7-15. CGD did end the day with a 2-1 win over Estherville-Lincoln Central with sets of 21-7, 19-21 and 15-12.

South Hamilton would go 4-1 on Saturday, opening with their lone loss of the day against Estherville-Lincoln Central by a 2-0 margin, with sets of 15-21 and 16-21. The Hawks rallied with three consecutive, 3-set wins with a 2-1 win over Eagle Grove (13-21, 21-11, 15-13), a 2-1 win over North Butler (22-24, 21-12, 15-10) and a 2-1 win over Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (21-13, 12-21, 15-9). The Hawks wrapped up the day with a 2-0 sweep of Clear Lake (21-17, 23-21).

Eagle Grove would go 1-4 on Saturday, opening the tournament with a 2-0 loss to Clear Lake (8-21, 12-21), before clawing out a 2-1 win over Estherville-Lincoln Central (15-21, 21-17, 15-13). The Eagles then dropped a 3-set loss to North Butler by a 2-1 margin (19-21, 22-20, 7-15), before dropping a 3-set match to South Hamilton (21-13, 11-21, 13-15). Eagle Grove then fell to CGD in their final match of the day by a 2-0 final (20-22, 15-21).

Eagle Grove volleyball returns to action on Tuesday, when they host West Hancock in Top of Iowa West action at Eagle Grove Elementary School with first serve at 7 PM. South Hamilton volleyball returns to action on Saturday, when they travel to Rockwell City to compete in the South Central Calhoun Tournament beginning at 8 AM. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows volleyball returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Iowa Falls-Alden to take on the Cadets in North Central Conference action at 7 PM.
