HAMPTON — The South Hamilton Hawks, Eagle Grove Eagles and BK-CGD Broncos cross country teams opened their 2025 seasons on Thursday night, as they made the trip into Franklin County to compete in the annual Iowa Falls-Alden/AGWSR Invitational at Maynes Grove Park near Hampton. The Hawks and Eagles were joined by Aplington-Parkersburg, BCLUW, Clear Lake, Dike-New Hartford, East Marshall, Gladbrook-Reinbeck, GMG, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Hudson, Humboldt, Janesville, Jesup, Meskwaki, Nevada, Newman Catholic, North Tama, South Hardin and West Marshall.
Thursday’s highlight would be South Hamilton junior Hayden Hill clinching an individual title in a time of 18:01.9, while junior Jesus Garcia placed 5th in 18:36.6. Kaden Greenlee was 63rd in 24:28.2, Evan Gibson was 64th in 24:28.9, while Mason Roethler was 66th in 25:14.3, as South Hamilton placed 8th with 199 points.
BK-CGD would place 10th with 240 points, as Logan Torsell was the top placer by finishing 39th in 21:25.7, as Eduardo Rivera was 41st in 21:29. Nolan Muhlenbruch was 47th in 21:50.3, Sam Williams was 56th in 23:13.7, while Leo Ertel was 57th in 23:16.6.
Eagle Grove would not place as a team, but junior Hunter Waldo-Martinez would clinch a top 10 finish by placing 7th in a time of 18:43.7, a new career-best. Felix Gonzalez was 50th in 21:46.6, Asarel Castro was 54th in 21:54.6 and Anthony Vasquez rounded out the lineup in 69th in 22:35.8.
BK-CGD’s girls would be the top placing team in girls meet by finishing 8th with 223 points. Lila Swenson was the top placing runner, finishing 20th in 23:02.1, as Avery Boshart was 39th in 25:20. Kendra Huedepohl was 46th in 25:47.9, Johanna Perez was 55th in 27:58.3, while Adrian Toj Lopez rounded out the lineup in 63rd with a time of 29:50.4.
South Hamilton placed 9th with 232 points, as Olivia Beaune was their top placer by finishing 26th in 23:46.4, as Cici Herrick was 41st in 25:21.3. Bianca Seaton was 49th in 26:31.2, Rosemary Chamness was 57th in 28:08.8, as Isabel Swenson rounded out the lineup by finishing 59th in 28:28.
Eagle Grove was 12th as a team and finished with 283 points. Myka Anderson was the top placer, finishing 23rd in a time of 23:31.2, as Lydia Kienzle was 53rd in 27:47.6. Ingrid Pull was 66th in 31:34.6, Ruby Coldiron was 69th in 33:36.7, as Hailey Johnson rounded out the lineup in 72nd with a time of 36:29.2.
South Hamilton, Eagle Grove and BK-CGD cross country all return to action on Tuesday, as they compete in the Webster City Lynx Invitational at Links Public Golf Course, beginning at 5 PM.
