JEWELL-The South Hamilton Community School Board Monday evening met with Hamilton County Conservation Director Brian Lammers and on behalf of the Boone Forks Region. The Boone Forks Region received grant funding for historical and cultural signs in local parks and communities. One of signs will honor the history of former Jewell Lutheran College. The school operated from 1893 until 1925. The South Hamilton Elementary School currently sits where the Lutheran College is located. Lammers requested the placement of the sign near the elementary gym entrance. The sign will be installed at a date to be announced.
The South Hamilton board approved the handbooks for the 2025-26 school year for students and staff. An updated Emergency Operations Plan was approved. This will incorporate the Standard Response Protocol and Standard Reunification Method,updated staff and contact information and new resources including a School Resource Officer and the E3 emergency notification app. The South Hamilton School Board approved various board policies. One is for the student use of personal electronic devices which cannot be used during the school day including at recess, study hall, passing time and on school transportation.
A contract amendment with Emergent Architecture was approved pending confirmation that the amended amount covers services up to the project bidding phase..
The school board accepted the resignation from Elementary Special Education Associate Frances Lane to take affect immediately. The following hirings were approved. Vickie Anderson as a junior/senior high office manager, Breanna Johnson as assistant dance coach, Mariah Cole as a football and basketball cheer coach, Laken Zanker as a junior high volunteer cross contry coach, Tiffany Nielsen as athletic secretary, Robyn Reisetter as Boys Cross Country Coach, Doug Sogard as Junior High Football Coach and Trinity Gygi as an assistant girls basketball coach for next season.
The next South Hamilton Community School Board meeting is set for Monday,September 8th at 6:00 p.m. at the junior/senior high board room in Jewell.
