2025 KQRadio Football Preview: Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys

A young, exciting team with high hopes in 2024 did not come to fruition for Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, as injuries and other factors played a role in the Cowboys finishing 2-7. A new season and many familiar faces back in 2025, there’s reason to believe the Cowboys can surprise many this fall.

Offense

Injuries marred the 2nd half of 2024 for the Cowboy offense, but if health is wealth in 2025, the Cowboys will have plenty of wealth. JD Morrical returns at quarterback, looking to build off an up-and-down first season as starter. Helping Morrical is a solid 1-2 punch at running back in senior Selvin Gonzalez and junior Charlie Campbell, as Gonzalez rushed for just under 700 yards and 4 touchdowns, while Campbell rushed for just under 400 yards and 4 scores. Morrical will also have his top target back in classmate and tight end Huxley Lingenfelter, who caught 3 touchdowns and had nearly 300 receiving yards. The offensive line will be the group that will have a bit of turnover, as JT Kelso is the top individual back up front. Kelso will be joined by the likes of Ryland Morgan, Jaxon Puhlman, Calder Creason, Traesyn Cope and Teddy Yackle among others.

Defense

The second and third levels of the Cowboys defense will be a strength, which marries perfectly with Caleb Vogel’s 3-3-5 system. Huxley Lingenfelter is the heart of the defense, after tallying 60 tackles, 9 TFL and 3 sacks in 2024, as Mason Warnke added 27.5 tackles as a sophomore. The job of replacing Caleb Seaba will likely come down to Eli Hodge, Cooper Nosbush or Greydon Frantz. The secondary is also chalked full of experience as Charlie Campbell leads the defensive backs after 26 tackles, 9 TFL, a sack and a pick six in 2024. JD Morrical led the secondary with 2 interceptions in 2024 along with 25.5 tackles, as Selvin Gonzalez led the secondary with 30 tackles last season. The defensive line will be a new group, led by returning nose tackle JT Kelso, but a big hole will be left by Bryce Lindaman after 38 tackles, 9 sacks and 22 TFL. Calder Creason, Ryland Morgan, Armando Melendez and Daven Duncalf will all be in the running to help solidify the Cowboys front 3.
