2025 KQRadio Football Preview: Eagle Grove Eagles

The 2024 season was a season that Eagle Grove football hoped to be a building block towards greater success, but endured many bumps and potholes to the finish line. The Eagles managed to finish the season strong, and bring back a boatload of experience on both sides of the ball for a squad looking for a playoff berth in their future.

Offense

Now entering his 6th season as head coach, Logan Willard has instituted a culture of smashmouth, hard-nosed football with his flexbone attack. At the center of that attack in 2025 will be junior fullback Trenton Robinson, who rushed for 579 yards and 4 touchdowns in 2024. Joining him in the backfield will be some sort of combination of Leelan Spencer, Arturo Reyna Salazer and Aaron Alaniz, while Adrian Whipple steps into the starting role at quarterback. The Eagles offensive line brings back some key returnees, including an experienced senior group in Reece Demuth, Jayden Kreitlow, James Harle and Christian Martinez.

Defense

Eagle Grove’s defense made strides by the end of 2024, while returning a big percentage of their production, led by senior linebacker Hayden Schafer, who led the Eagles with 42 tackles and 5.5 TFL in 2024. Joining him in the second level will be junior Dylan Terwilliger, who recorded 32.5 tackles and 2 TFL, as well as Arturo Reyna Salazar, who recorded 27 tackles, 2 TFL and a sack. The defensive line will be an experienced one as well, as the Eagles brings back Trenton Robinson, Reece DeMuth and Christian Martinez, as players such as James Harle and Jayden Kreitlow will likely see expanded roles. The secondary is a mixed bag, as both cornerbacks in Cam Sisson and Aaron Alaniz are back, as Adrian Whipple and Jackson Babcock are in line to help fill in the safety spots vacated by Jaxon Morris and Brett Ascherl.
