2025 KQRadio All-Area Baseball Teams and Awards

The 2025 High School Baseball season for the KQRadio area was similar to how the softball season played out. A lot of standout individual performances, but a building block into what could be a very fun summer in 2026.

On the mound, Griffith provided consistency each time out, holding opponents to an average of well below the Mendoza line.

Frey was a metaphorical-vacuum in center field for the Norsemen, not making a single error in his sophomore season and making numerous web gems throughout the season.

Newcomer of the Year: Paxton Lingenfelter, 8th Grade, OF (Clarion-Goldfield-Dows)

Stats – .338 AVG/.451 OBP/.368 SLG/.819 OPS, 11 RBI, 19 R, 12 SB, 23 H, 2 2B, 20 putouts, .909 F%

Lingenfelter provided impressive consistency at the plate as an 8th grader, leading CGD starters in many hitting categories including total hits (23) and average (.338).

Coach of the Year: Chris Hill (Roland-Story)

Accomplishments – 22-10 record, T-3rd in HOIAC, District Finalist, Substate Semifinalist

Hill led a Norsemen team that grew by leaps and bounds after a surprise substate final appearance in 2024, and while the Norsemen didn’t make it back to the substate final, they managed to go down to the wire with one of the small school powers in Van Meter in their substate semifinal.

First Team All-Area

Catcher – William Zamzow, Sr. (Roland-Story)

Stats – .329 AVG/.570 OBP/.487 SLG/1.057 OPS, 1 HR, 31 RBI, 2 R, 25 H, 7 2B, 1 3B, 20 BB, 24 HBP, 241 putouts, 20 assists, .989 F%, 10 runners thrown out, 38 stolen bases allowed

A senior leader for the Norsemen, Zamzow proved to be one of the hardest batters to retire in all of Class 2A, with an OBP that was 2nd in the HOIAC (.570), while also being one of the state’s leaders in hit by pitches (24). Defensively, Zamzow was 3rd in the HOIAC in runners thrown out stealing (10).

It was an up-and-down season for Jeter at the hot corner, but his up’s, along with his ability to get on base and drive in runs, is enough for him to garner first-team honors in 2025.
