Webster City baseball season ends at Waverly-Shell Rock, 9-2

The Webster City Lynx baseball team returned to action on Friday, as they made the trip east to Bremer County to take on the Waverly-Shell Rock Go-Hawks in Class 3A, Substate 3 action at Hertel Field on the campus of Wartburg University in Waverly. Webster City entered at 12-16, while Waverly-Shell Rock entered at 13-14.

Waverly would strike early and often on Friday, putting up 2 runs in the 1st and 3 runs in the 2nd to take an early 5-0 lead. Webster City would have a response with a Gavin Griffith 2-run RBI double to cut the score to 5-2. Waverly would respond in the 3rd with a run, followed by the Go-Hawks scoring 3 more runs in the 4th to take a 9-2 lead. Both offenses would stall in the final frames as Waverly-Shell Rock moved on with a 9-2 victory.

Gavin Griffith would go 1-for-3 on the day with a 2-run RBI double, while Brady Asklund picked up the only other hit on the day for Webster City.

Waverly-Shell Rock advances to face Boone in the Class 3A, Substate 3 semifinals on Monday night at 7 PM at Memorial Park in Boone. Webster City’s season ends with a record of 12-16.
