The Roland-Story Norsemen softball team returned to action on Saturday, as they made the trip east on Interstate 80 to take on the West Liberty Comets in Class 3A, Region 6 action at West Liberty High School. Roland-Story entered at 12-15, while West Liberty entered at 20-7.
West Liberty would not waste time in creating offense, putting up 2 runs in the 1st, 2 more runs in the 2nd, and a run in the 3rd to go ahead of the Norsemen 5-0. Following a scoreless 4th, the Comets added 2 more runs in the 5th to take a 7-0 lead. Roland-Story would try to get the offense going, but could not get any consistency off Comets ace Mallory Wulff as West Liberty grabbed a 7-0 win.
Evelyn Carlson had the top day at the plate for the Norsemen, going 2-for-3 with a double. Miley Geise, Maddie Berggren and Keely Oberender all recorded hits for Roland-Story as well. Miley Geise pitched 6 innings, allowing 7 runs (5 earned) on 11 hits and struck out 4.
