The Webster City Lynx softball team returned to action on Thursday, as they opened their postseason by taking on the Waterloo East Trojans in Class 4A, Region 6 first round action at Webster City High School. Webster City entered at 6-17, while Waterloo East entered at 4-24.
Webster City would not waste time in building their lead, putting up a run in the first, which would be followed by a 5-run second inning to take a 6-0 lead. The Lynx offense would not slow down in the 3rd with 4 more runs, before shutting down the Trojans in the 4th to cap a 10-0, 4-inning victory.
Jakaela Cherry would have a stellar all-around night, going 3-for-3 with a home run, a single and a double, while also pitching a 1-hit shutout with 8 strikeouts. Cloe Savitski went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI, while Lydia VanDeer, Jaylyn Bahrenfuss and Alivia Burns all drove in runs as well.
Webster City softball returns to action on Saturday, when they travel to Cedar Rapids to take on the top-ranked Xavier Saints with first pitch at 7 PM on AM 1570 KZWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
